Milestone! by Infinitus - 14/02/10 @ 00:03AM
Half a million posts FTW!!
Options by Infinitus - 14/11/09 @ 00:40AM
There are a couple of new options in the manage settings section. These just deal with enabling/disabling adverts, just saves people editing the templates.

You may notice though that you now have the option to enable "Intermission Adverts", these are ad pages that show up before the main page. Obviously these are quite intrusive, so they are disabled by default, however if you wish to help us out (Far more revenue is generated from those than banner ads), feel free to turn them on and help out.

Hopefully I will think of a better monotization system than adverts in the future, as I really loath them. But sadly they are the only real way of paying for the server costs.
Adverts by Infinitus - 11/11/09 @ 17:53PM
Well seeing as this place costs a fair amount to host and nobody is donating, I've decided to introduce some advertisment to hopefully bring in enough to cover the cost of hosting and with luck enough for another server (we really need to get some load splitting for this site with the amount of hits its recieving).

As always, adverts are optional, if you don't want them just remove the ad banner code from your footer. Though it is appreciated if you keep it.

(If you can't see the adverts yet, give it some time, etology can be a bit slow setting up).

On a slightly different note, I added an "Expand All Images" button and swapped the expand functionality to clicking the image rather than the file link.
A few changes by Infinitus - 08/11/09 @ 17:52PM
I'm just making a few changes to the software. Bare with me if there are any errors.

Also on a side note, if you reset your board template to the default the blotter has been updated slightly. Nothing amazing, it just adds word-wrapping to it, which was sorely needed for some boards that seem to not understand the enter key.
Whos using the most space? by Infinitus - 16/10/09 @ 15:09PM

Your all being beaten by a furry board. Wheres your pride? :3
DDoS by Infinitus - 16/09/09 @ 14:18PM
DDoS attack last night, lasted about 5 hours. What else is new.
My Absence by Infinitus - 12/09/09 @ 22:47PM
Just wanted to apologise for the lack of updates in the recent weeks. Been changing computers, still getting my development server back up and running, I'll try and get development back up and running in a little while.

Also I'll be moving into new halls of residence at uni later this week, so I'll probably disappear for a few days then :3.
Take Down Request by Infinitus - 09/09/09 @ 16:56PM
Just so you guys are aware, we've recieved several take down requests, as well as notifications from the IWF and "Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre" (thank you /stickbackup/ for being a pain in the arse!).

They have indicated they will be collecting data from our server provider, which makes it probable that this site may go down in the next few hours if our hard drives get seized.

Got to love this orwellian UK government :3. They seem to missunderstand the difference between a host and hostee.
Board Purging by Infinitus - 05/09/09 @ 02:34AM
Alright, the dead boards are growing at a stupid rate. I'm going to re-implement the board pruner, anything with no posts for more than 30 days will be removed. Make sure to backup.
500 *chans! by Vorche - 28/08/09 @ 07:25AM
Congratulations IB4F, you've reached half a thousand *chans.
Jolly good work indeed.
DDoS by Infinitus - 24/08/09 @ 01:57AM
Sorry about the slowness. The server is currently being ddos'd (again). I wonder who pissed people off this time :P.

Anyhow, with luck it will probably be back to normal in a few hours.

Edit: Seems like they got bored about 10am (GMT), things should be back to normal for the time being.

By the way on a side note. If you don't like the current sub-domain for your imageboard. You can actually add as many sub-domains as you want. In the domain manager just add subdomains (eg. mychanalias.ib4f.com) and it will resolve to your imageboard, you can add as many sub-domains as you want, as long as they don't already exist.
Blotter by Infinitus - 23/08/09 @ 16:59PM
Right guys, I implemented a simple blotter today. Something I've been meaning to do, but never got round to.

Anyhow, if you go into your admin panel and go to "manage news", when you create or edit a news item you will now notice an option called "Where to show", this allows you to pick different boards/pages to show the news on. If you pick a board it gets shown in the blotter, if you pick the news page it gets shown here, and so forth.

Anyhow, hope thats helpful.

Edit: I've also added the ability to assign custom templates to boards in the "Manage Boards" section of the admincp. This should help people who until now have been using a bazillion if expressions.

It also has the added benefit that you can now technically create "static" or "meta" pages. You can replace the entire template of a board with that of, say, a page that shows a feed of recent posts. Hopefully some of you will find a use for that.

Edit 2: I've also just removed the (add file) link. When you select a file it will automatically add new file boxs, rather than making you have to manually click the link.
150 Days by Infinitus - 23/08/09 @ 11:25AM
We've been online for a whole 150 days now :3
Auto-Backups by Infinitus - 20/08/09 @ 01:01AM
Just so your aware I manually started a backup for all boards with content over 100mb, no big reason, just making sure they get backed up incase the users are not aware of the backup system yet.
Cleaned out the boards by Infinitus - 18/08/09 @ 23:05PM
Thanks to my own stupidity, I tested some of the board restoration code on the production server D:. Not a big deal, but its screwed up most of the posts in this board, so I've had to clear out all but the most recent posts.

Ah well, time to start this board a new :3.

And yes, I'm aware of the irony of loosing the content of a board when testing a backup system.
Backups Available by Infinitus - 18/08/09 @ 20:48PM
Right guys, backups can now be taken and restored. Your now responsible for taking your own backups :). Don't rely 100% on this system for your backups, although it seems to work fine, its best you keep as many other backup options available to you as possible.

Also please don't abuse this, taking backups is a pretty heavy duty process, the time limits should prevent people going over board, but all the same, only take them when you need to. Also if you have very large boards (over a gigabyte), you might want to think about removing some content before backing up, otherwise your going to have some heafty uploads and downloads.

Be aware that when you request a backup, it won't be done right then. One backup is done at a time, and they are done once every hour, so your backup may take several hours depends on where it is in the queue. This is to prevent multiple backups taking up all the available processing power.
Backups by Infinitus - 17/08/09 @ 11:20AM
Right guys, as you are no doubt aware, AnonIB was hacked yesterday. This made me somewhat paranoid, so I've been implementing some board backup systems today. In the next few hours you should see two new options appear on your admin panels. "Backup Board" and "Restore Board", these will generate packaged backup files of all posts and boards. They won't store things like templates and styles though (at least not yet), only post content.
Nitrogen Theme by Infinitus - 15/08/09 @ 23:40PM
I wrote a new pre-made theme today for those of you who wish to use it. Its a conversion of a pretty well known theme called Nitrogen, probably the most well known site that uses a varient of it is anonib. Hopefully it should be useful to you guys.

As usual you can add it to your site via the pre-made stylesheets combobox in the "Manage Styles" section of the admincp.
Image on the left is a preview (obviously).
Come Join by Infinitus - 15/08/09 @ 14:25PM

As some of you may be aware we have been running a public UK l4d server. You can access it by typing "connect l4d.ib4f.com" into the console in game. Or you can join the steam group "Imbroglio" and the server will show up in the bottom-right of the main menu. I'm generally online after 6pm'ish. Maybe I shall see you there :).
Proxy/Suspicious IP Banning by Infinitus - 15/08/09 @ 14:10PM
Sorry if you were banned sometime over the last day for being a proxy or having a suspicious IP. I'm not sure what happened, but I think that one of the DNS blacklists we use spazed out and started reporting everything as suspicious. I've removed the blacklists from the blocking code, and have removed most of the bans I think were made because of this, if you are still banned, just post in the support board and I'll have it removed.
Sub-Domains by Infinitus - 15/08/09 @ 01:22AM
As some of you may have noticed, I've been playing around with sub-domains over the last few days. I've set everything up so that you can now access your boards via sub-domains of the main site. For example you can now access the support board at http://support.ib4f.com. Hopefully that should shorten some of the domains.

If you can't access a board at the moment you might have to wait a few hours until the DNS entries for this system resolve.

Also note that this will only work if your board URL is a valid TLD; meaning only numbers, letters and dashs.
Donations by Infinitus - 13/08/09 @ 20:52PM
*ignores DJ*

Anyhow. Just wanted to say thank you to the people who have been donating to this site, its much appreciated, and will help pay for the server fees :).

A wild DJVENOM appears.
Board Template Updated by Infinitus - 11/08/09 @ 23:55PM
The board template has been updated, hopefully it is now more flexible and of more use.
Merging Images by Infinitus - 11/08/09 @ 17:43PM
Right guys, on request of a user, if you edit a board in the board manager there is now an option called "Merge Same-Post Images?" if you untick this then when a user posts multiple images they will go in seperate posts, if you leave it ticked they will be merged into one post as is currently done.
Speed Problems by Infinitus - 10/08/09 @ 15:45PM
Sorry about the 20 minutes or so of speed problems earlier. Apparently someone tripped a couple of apache process that managed to use up 90% of the CPU for about 22 minutes. I've fixed that, and added some safe-guards in place to prevent it from happening again.

Edit: Seems someone was trying to ddos a board as well. Obsecure way of doing it, basically just doing a http leach which had a speed knock-on-effect.
ImageBoard4Free by Infinitus - 08/08/09 @ 02:26AM
Front page template has been updated. Its now far more customisable. Just the board template left and the main templates will all be updated!
Templating System by Infinitus - 07/08/09 @ 19:53PM
Right guys, I've just updated the templating system quite a lot. Please bare with any bugs / slowness as I'm working at the moment on dealing with them and optimizing the system.

Basically in this update I added 3 major things;

1. Recursion support. You can now use foreach to iterate over arrays in templates, this allows me more options to do things like custom board-lists, menu templates, etc.

2. Expression evaluator. I wrote a simple expression evaluator for templates, its basically a replacement for the old {if} system. Its basically the same thing put supports full boolean logic expression, including function calls, variables and similar.

3. Function calls. You can now call functions directly from within templates. There are few functions available at the moment, but I'm adding more as I go, I'll write up a list of functions and variables available later.

You can see the new templating system in action in the new menu template and the new board list template. Both of which are far more customisable thanks to the recursion support.

I will be going over all the current templates in the next few days and expanding them with the new templating features so you have more ability to customise your boards.
Templating System by Infinitus - 07/08/09 @ 02:30AM
Ok guys, expect a few odd changes over the next day or so. Don't both reporting them, they aren't bugs, I'm just going to be rolling out a large update to the templating system.

I'm trying to update the templating system to the point where its actually, you know, useful :P. Lots of intresting new functions in this system, I'll do a nice big explanation when I've finished updating things.
ImageBoard4Free by Infinitus - 05/08/09 @ 22:07PM
Well we're up to the 200,000 posts mark :D. Looks like this site is getting pretty popular.

Also, the GET post sucked hard D:. Shame on the person who posted it.
IP Tracing by Infinitus - 04/08/09 @ 17:14PM
Right guys, as you might have noticed, there is a new option in the bans section of the admincp. When you try and add a ban you have the option of turning on IP tracing. Basically what this does is trace the users IP address if they are hiding behind a web-proxy, its not full-proof, but it gets the correct IP a good deal of the time. I've done this because I'm rather fed-up of people hiding behind web proxies to post illegal content, I mean come-on, if your going to use a proxy, at least do it properly.
Minor DDoS Attack by Infinitus - 03/08/09 @ 22:46PM
Just incase your are wondering, the slowness earlier was the result of a minor http flood attack from 420chan.org over some childish problem with /wrestlechan/.

Anyhow, hopefully thats over with for now.
Expand Thread Button by Infinitus - 03/08/09 @ 19:59PM
Minor update, just added an "expand-thread" button on the request of some people at /wrestlechan/, hope that helps.

Edit: Another minor update. Clicking the file link above an image will now expand the image without opening a new window.
Banner Exchange by Infinitus - 02/08/09 @ 23:12PM
As you might have noticed, the majority of the footer code has been removed today (sorry if I screwed up any custom footers, going through a couple of hundred database rows is quite tedious D:), and instead replaced with a simple { ad_banner } tag. The reason for this is that the banner exchange has been modified so it cycles between the chan3 one and our own internal banner exchange.

All boards are by default included in the exchange, to set the banner your chan will use just go into Manage Files in your admincp and change the "Banner Image" combo box to the file you want to display.

Please be aware though this is a give-&-take system, if your board does not have the banner exchange code in the footer then your board will not be displayed in the exchange.
Watched Thread List by Infinitus - 31/07/09 @ 23:27PM
As you might have noticed there is a new link in the board list called [WT]. This if you didn't already know stands for "Watched Threads". When you click this a persistent, moveable and resizable window will appear that you can use to store links to all the threads or chans you are currently viewing/visiting.

At the moment, the board list looks the same on all themes, which makes it pretty ugly on darker themes. I'm going to be going through and modifying all the default stylesheets over the next few hours, make sure to update them in a day or so, so everything looks good.

I'll also be adding alerts and a few other things to the watched thread list as soon as I can.
User Flags & Translation by Infinitus - 30/07/09 @ 20:49PM
I just decided to add this feature a couple of hours ago as I noticed people in /dreikanal/ bitching about not having something like this, but not actually bothering to ask me >_>.

Anyhow, basically in the board manager you can now enable two new options. The first allows you to show flags of the users country next to each of their posts, the second allows you to show a translation combo box next to each of their posts so it can be translated into different languages.

An example image is shown here;

Daily Hits by Infinitus - 30/07/09 @ 02:32AM
Just figured it would be a nice thing to tell you guys we are currently getting around 1M hits a day, and things are going up. Thanks for the traffic guys ;).
Error Pages by Infinitus - 30/07/09 @ 01:07AM
Just as a slight update. I've modified some of the code so a lot more error messages (board-non-existant and such) go to the boards individual error template rather than falling back to the IB4F error template. Should be slightly more seamless now.
ZIP Download Option by Infinitus - 29/07/09 @ 19:58PM
I've just added a new option to topics, you will notice that there is another icon at the top of topics that looks like this . This icon when you click it will compress all images in a thread into a zip file and then allow you to download it, quicker than manually downloading all the images in a thread.

Be aware this may not be permanent. It depends on how much CPU and bandwidth this feature takes up, if it dosen't have to much impact I'll probably keep it.
ImageBoard4Free by Infinitus - 26/07/09 @ 22:05PM
Just so your aware I've tweeked some of the backend code so that when you post multiple images they will now all show up in one line on your post (ala anonib), rather than in multiple posts like before.

For the record, I personally dislike this form of posting, its cluttered and unpleasent looking, but if people want it *shrugs*.
More Connectivity Problems by Infinitus - 25/07/09 @ 12:25PM
Will be nice when I can finally get this site running stable D:. Anyhow, the datacenter have reported that they have now resolved the problems, hopefully we shouldn't have any more problems for a while.
Down Time by Infinitus - 24/07/09 @ 08:37AM
Sorry about the 5 or so hours of downtime earlier today, our host apparently had a connection problem with the switch that connects some of the servers (including ours) to the network at their data center D:
New Server by Infinitus - 16/07/09 @ 20:27PM
Right guys, we are on our nice new dedicated server now! Hopefully things should be better all round, although US users may experiance a bit more latency as the new server is based within the UK.

I've also removed the board pruner seeing as we have more than enough free space now. So no more deletions of boards after 2 weeks ;).

A small note though, currently all custom domains have been removed, if you want to re-add them make sure to change over to our new nameservers (ns1.ib4f.com, ns2.ib4f.com).

Edit: I just added a whitelisting feature for bans as well, hopefully that should help some of you caught out by some of our global bans.
Moving to new server by Infinitus - 14/07/09 @ 16:36PM
Right guys we are going to be moving to our new server in the next day or so, please bare with any downtime. Please also check this domain for details, custom board domains will most likely go down temporarily as we have to switch nameservers for them.

On another note, we are going to try setting up a hosting service on the new server as well. So for a very minimal price you can automatically-setup stock installs of most of the common imageboard scripts, with full ftp/database/etc access.
Oh Hai by Infinitus - 11/07/09 @ 02:51AM
Oh hai, I heard you like dedicated servers? :D

Well we now have a brand spanking new one, far, far more powerful than the one we are currently on and with far more space and bandwidth. Its currently being built by the supplier, and should be ready in a few days. Burnt my bank balance somewhat, but should keep this site and the other things hosted on it going for quite a long time.

It should also mean an end to the horrible board purger, no more deletions of inactive boards.

If your intrested, the specs of the new server are;

Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz (Dell)
3GB RAM
1x 1TB 7,200rpm
Linux - Debian 5.0
4TB Bandwidth Per Month
Dedicated 100Mbit Port

Unfortunatly this may cause some problems with DNS resolution of custom domains that are assigned to boards, we will be making changes to the way the system operates, which may require you to update your DNS entries. Currently we slave off linodes nameservers, works great, but pain in the arse to transfer the system over.
DDoS by Infinitus - 11/07/09 @ 01:13AM
Welcome back. No doubt you've noticed the site has been down for the last 24 hours or so.

Basically what happened, from what I can gather (still sketchy, haven't checked the logs yet), is that somebody on this site spammed url's to his board on numerous different sites, some people from those sites seem to have clubbed together to DDoS our server (ProTip: There is a report abuse link on the front page, easier to get his board deleted that way). To prevent any damage to the network we nullrouted the servers IP address last night, hence
why you could not access the site.

Heres an image showing our network usage during the DDoS, I'm sure the attackers will like to see their handywork ;).

Just so your aware, if I catch any boards spamming their links on other sites, I will delete them without warning. I will also be deleting a few boards in the next few hours that were the main cause of this site gettign DDoS'd.

On yet another note, I will hopefully be getting a much better dedicated server soon, so more disk space and bandwidth all around. Hopefully that should mean the end to the board-purger.

Also: Feel free to donate to the bandwidth charges I'm now going to have to pay thanks to the DDoS ;)
What Is Love? by Infinitus - 08/07/09 @ 01:57AM

Updates by Infinitus - 07/07/09 @ 16:08PM
Sorry for the lack of updates recently, I've been pretty busy. I'll go through and do all the requests/bug reports later today.

On another note, I'll also be doing the following 3 actions, which are probably not going to be to popular, but are required.

1. I'm going to be adding a hard-coded maximum file size limit. I'm sorry, but the amount of abuse this is taking is just plain stupid. For the last time, we are a imageboard host not a file host, allowing people to upload several GB files is ridiculous; have you got any idea how much server hard drives cost? Well I can tell you they are far smaller in size, and FAR more expensive than consumer hard drives. Space is not cheap on servers. If you want to host files, use a dedicated file host, like megaupload or rapidshare, they have large datacenters dedicated to them, far more than we have.

2. I'll be adding a hard-coded maximum pages limit. Some people are trying to defeat the point of the imageboard system and have threads that never expire, where the maximum page limit is several thousand. This again is a complete waste of space, especially as most people are never going to look at threads that are on page 10+ or similar.

3. I'll be removing the rapid uploader application, so get it while you can. This thing is so heavily abused, you wouldn't believe it. People are just leaving it running for days on end, uploading tens of thousands of identical porn images D:, which are then almost never commented on or, judging by the hits of the boards, never even seen. You can't gain activity for a board, just by pretending its active and dumping tons of porn onto it.
Bandwidth Tracking Removed by Infinitus - 02/07/09 @ 21:14PM
I removed the bandwidth tracking code I added a couple of days ago, it was to slow and caused to many problems. I think I'll just stick to direct links for files from now on ;)
Bandwidth Tracking by Infinitus - 01/07/09 @ 02:29AM
I'm implementing some new systems to track bandwidth usage on boards. I have a feeling that some of them may be detrimental to the speed of the site, please bare with be over the next day or so while I sort this out.
ImageBoard4Free by Infinitus - 30/06/09 @ 02:49AM
Wow you guys sure do suck up the bandwidth. I'm going to have to upgrade the VPS this site is running on twice over next month to get enough bandwidth to keep things going, lol. We cut it fine this month, we were within about 10gb of our limit.

Might even have to move to another host, or get a dedi server, the VPS we currently run on is pretty restrictive when it comes up upgrading individual elements like bandwidth and disk space.

Anyhow, nice to see the site is getting so popular, hope you guys are enjoying it. Feel free to donate towards the server fees *hint hint*.
Advertisment on Boards by Infinitus - 29/06/09 @ 22:05PM
Just so you are aware, I've implemented a suggestion by a board admin. You can now optionally display adverts at the bottom/top of your board by place { ad_banner } (without spaces) into the header/footer template's. Its not required, and never will be, but if enough people do it, it will hopefully help us generate at least enough revenue to cover some of the server fees (donations are welcome too!), which are going to be getting rather high at the rate people are using resources.
Deleted Posts by Infinitus - 29/06/09 @ 20:10PM
Just to let you guys know, I just updated the software so it now keeps a history of deleted posts, images and boards for 3 days after they are deleted. If you accidently delete something or need some information from an old post, just contact me and I'll recover them (for security reasons, I think its best not to permit non site-staff to have access to this system).
Minor Tweek by Infinitus - 29/06/09 @ 15:51PM
Just a minor tweek notice, you can now edit news items. I'll also be adding news-comments in later today.
New Super Admin by Infinitus - 29/06/09 @ 02:10AM
On a slightly unrelated note. We now have a second super admin (besides me!). You'll probably see him browsing the site, his nickname is DJvenom.
User System by Infinitus - 29/06/09 @ 00:04AM
Right guys, I've just spent the last 8 hours or so modifying IB4F's source code D:. Hopefully you will like the new system enough that my time has been well spent.

Anyhow, when you go to your admincp, the first thing you will notice is that your login screen now also asks for a username. This is because as you may have guessed we have a new usergroup system working now, hopefully it should be more flexible than the mod-password system that was in-place beforehand. For reference the default password is "Admin", though that should be obvious as the textbox is auto-filled with it.

When you actually get into the admincp you will notice there is a new link at the bottom-left hand side of the screen, called "Manage Staff". This allows you to add and edit all the staff members on your board and assign the permissions based on what their job entails.

When you first go to the Manage Staff section you will notice there are already two entries, "Admin" and "Member". These are the default users that define the permissions of the root administrator as well as the permissions that normal members are given. Neither of these users are deletable, and only the member's permissions are modifiable (This is to prevent account hijacking, the root administrator will always have the sign-up login and email address, unless changed by a super-admin).

Now if you click on "add staff member" you will come to a screen with quite a lot of options on it, I think you can probably work out what the first 3 do (username, password and email), the last 3 though may need some explaining.

Access Level: Access levels defined the default permissions a user is given (Admin, Mod, Janitor, Member). It's basically a quicker way than defining the permissions yourself.

Permissions: This area allows you to assign special permissions to each user, defining what they can and can-not do on your board. These are automatically selected when you change the Access Level option, so if your not sure about these, just select an access level and forget about them.

Permission Board List: This area allows you to select all the boards that this users can use his permissions on (which allows you for example to make moderators local to a single board). If they are not on a board in this list then they are assigned the default member permissions.

Access Board List: This area allows you to select which boards a specific user can access, if he attempts to go on a board thats not on this list he will be granted with an "access denied" screen.

And that is basically all the options for each individual user. Now you may be asking how the user uses these permissions now assigned to him? Well the system is pretty much the same as before, the user selects the post he / she wants to edit and scrolls to the bottom and uses the form there. The only difference is that they don't enter a password into the password field, instead they have to be logged into the staff panel. Nice a simple.

Anyhow. Expect a dick-load of bugs in this update, its required some hefty changes to the sites source code. I'll be going through and fixing them as quick as I can.

Edit: Oh and another quick thing, if you give a user the “Manage Staff” permission be aware that they will not be able to modify, delete or add any users that have an access level above their own one.
New Usergroup System by Infinitus - 26/06/09 @ 00:44AM
Just a heads up, theres a new user-system coming soon (proper multi-user support, no more moderator-passwords and such, including permission based access levels). While I work on this in the next few days a number of things may appear and dissappear from the admincp while I upgrade things. Nothing to worry about, should all be fixed soon.

And while you wait;

Minor Modification by Infinitus - 24/06/09 @ 21:34PM
Just a minor modification notice. You can now set colors for individual capcodes when you add them. To be honest I can't work out why I didn't add that in when I first made the capcode manager.
Project HoneyPot Blacklist by Infinitus - 23/06/09 @ 18:21PM
The project honeypot blacklist has been implemented. If your board is set to block proxies then anything with a high enough threat level will be blocked. This should more or less get rid of the majority of spam-bots, malicious exploits and so forth.
Bunch Of Updates by ImageBoard4Free - 23/06/09 @ 00:53AM
Right guys, just started going through some of the requests today. Sorry for the delay, I've been rather busy. The following modifications have been made today;

- GET Numbering Updated
The GET counter on the front page now counts in ten thousands rather than thousands.

- Image Flood Control Option
You can now enable or disable image flood control in the board manager of your admincp. I really would advise you not to, it helps keep the spam away.

- Spoiler Images Filtered
I filtered out all spoiler'd images from the latests images area of the front page.

- Reported Post Description
When reporting a post now the user has the option of given a description of the problem. Should help you decide on urgency better.

- Scoped Filters
You can now apply filters to specific boards rather than just globally as before.

- Ban Options
There are now a lot more ban options available, noteable being able to ban by host name and image hash. You can also now use wildcards in IP's and hostname's, which allows you to ban whole subnets, continents or whatever else you feel like banning. You can also apply bans to specific boards now rather than just globally. The form at the bottom of boards/topics has been updated to display these new options.

- Ban Appeals
The ban template has been updated (sorry had to remove custom ones!). It now shows users more information on their ban, as well as allows them to make ban appeals (which are shown in the Manage Bans section of the admincp).

Anyhow thats about it for the moment, there were a few other minor tweeks, but nothing worth mentioning. Hopefully there should not be to many errors with this upgrade. Expect some more updates in the next few days.
Fixed a couple of things by ImageBoard4Free - 18/06/09 @ 17:43PM
I fixed a few bugs and changed a few under-the-hood things. I also added an automatic warning for boards that are about to be purged. If your board has less than 3 days before being purged (it will be purged if its inactive for more than 2 weeks), a message similar to this "Warning: This board is currently on the inactive list, without a new post it will be purged in approximately 2.89 days." will show at the top of all pages. If you see that, you have best get posting ;).

I'll be going through and doing the requests people have asked for over the weekend, so expect a few updates then.
Ban Appeal Process by ImageBoard4Free - 16/06/09 @ 00:13AM
Anyone want one? Trying to decide if there are enough bans being handed out to actually warrent one. If you think it would be a good idea post in the feedback board, I would like to guage peoples ideas regarding it.
Couple of updates by ImageBoard4Free - 15/06/09 @ 03:04AM
Sorry for the lack of updates recently guys, been a bit busy with a game-dev project of mine, its been taking a fair amount of my time.

Anyhow a couple of small updates today, just some tweeks mainly. The ones you will probably notice are a couple of new data-sources in the statistic area of the admincp.
Updated Active Boards by ImageBoard4Free - 13/06/09 @ 16:57PM
Some people were confused about how the active boards list on the front page was calculated. I've modified the system slightly in a way I think is fairer. It now lists boards according to the amount of posts they have recieved in the last 24 hours.

Oh and on another note I updated the statistics graph area of the admincp and added some new data sources.
Changed The Style-Menu by ImageBoard4Free - 13/06/09 @ 01:05AM
As you may have noticed I changed the style menu at the top of the boards to a combo-box. I've done this because many boards were adding so many styles that it became a real eye-sore at the top of the board, hopefully this should make it a little better. I will add an option (or if I finally get a better templating system in ... ) to use different styles of menus soon.
Staff Complaints by ImageBoard4Free - 13/06/09 @ 00:57AM
I added a board for dealing with complaints against staff. With luck it won't need to be used, but I think its a good idea given I've added a fair number of staff members recently.
Support Style by ImageBoard4Free - 10/06/09 @ 20:08PM
Quick note guys, if you added the support boards style to your own boards, you might wish to re-add it. I forgot a color change in the menu css (seeing as the support board dosen't use the normal menu), which looks pretty nasty, I fixed it and reuploaded it.
Support Template / Style by ImageBoard4Free - 10/06/09 @ 01:20AM
I added the support boards new stylesheet to the premade stylesheets in your admincp incase you want to use it.

I also posted the template of the front page in the templates board. This should hopefully help you work out how to use the stat function correctly ;).
Stat Function Added by ImageBoard4Free - 10/06/09 @ 00:44AM
Right guys I've just added a new function to the templating system by request of someone a couple of weeks back (sorry, I've been busy, haven't had a chance to do it until now).

Basically what this new function does is allow you to dynamically request statistic data and place it into your template. You can see examples of its use on this page, with the "recent posts", "recent images" and so forth above.

The function is very simple to use, the syntax is as follows;

{stat(name,scope,index,sub-name)}

The name parameter is the name of the statistic you want to retrieve, I'll come onto these later.

Scope is the scope you wish to get the statistic from, it can either be empty/all or the url of a channel. If its empty/all then the statistic will be gathered from the whole board (total_posts for example will return the total posts in the entire board), where as if you give it the url of a board then it will only gather statistic from that board (total_posts will only return the total posts in the given board).

Index is the index of the data you wish to get, for most statistics this can be left empty. Its main use is with latest_posts and latest_images to determine the offset of the post or image you wish to retrieve information on.

Sub-Name is used when more than one piece of data can be returned, namely with latest_posts and latest_images, this is used to determine which piece of data to return. For example thread_url could be used with latest_images to return the url of the thread an image came from.

The following is a list of all statistics that can be returned;

- total_posts
This returns the total number of posts in the scope defined.
eg. {stat(total_posts,b,,)} will return all posts in the /b/ board.

- total_topics
This returns the total number of topic in the scope defined.
eg. {stat(total_topics,b,,)} will return all topic in the /b/ board.

- active_content
This returns the total amount of active content in the scope defined.
eg. {stat(active_content,b,,)} will return how many megabytes of data is stored in the /b/ board.

- active_users
This returns the total amount of users in the scope defined.
eg. {stat(active_users,,,)} will return how many users are browsing the *chan.

- latest_images
- latest_images_sfw
- latest_images_nsfw
This returns information on the latest images in the defined scope. Indexed by the third parameter.
It can return any of the following pieces of information.
- - thumb_url
This is the url of the thumbnail of this image.
- - thread_url
This is the url of the thread this image came from.
eg. {stat(latest_images,b,0,thumb_url)} will return the thumbnail url of the latest image in the /b/ board.

- latest_topics
- latest_topics_sfw
- latest_topics_nsfw
- latest_posts
- latest_posts_sfw
- latest_posts_nsfw
This returns information on the latest posts/topics in the defined scope. Indexed by the third parameter.
It can return any of the following pieces of information.
- - board_name
This is the name of the board the post came from.
- - url
This is the url of the thread this post came from.
- - name
This is the name of this post.
- - tripcode
This is the tripcode of this post.
- - email
This is the email of this post.
- - subject
This is the subject of this post.
- - comment
This is the content of the post.
- - short_content
This is the content of the post shortened to 35 characters.
eg. {stat(latest_posts,b,0,url)} will return the url of the latest post in the /b/ board.

Heres a quick example of how you could use this function in your chan. Putting the following code into a template on your chan would show links to the last 5 posts made in your chan. Its the same code as used on this page for the recent-posts section.

{stat(latest_posts,,0,board_name)}: <a href="{stat(latest_posts,,0,url)}">{stat(latest_posts,,0,short_comment)}</a><br/>
{stat(latest_posts,,1,board_name)}: <a href="{stat(latest_posts,,1,url)}">{stat(latest_posts,,1,short_comment)}</a><br/>
{stat(latest_posts,,2,board_name)}: <a href="{stat(latest_posts,,2,url)}">{stat(latest_posts,,2,short_comment)}</a><br/>
{stat(latest_posts,,3,board_name)}: <a href="{stat(latest_posts,,3,url)}">{stat(latest_posts,,3,short_comment)}</a><br/>
{stat(latest_posts,,4,board_name)}: <a href="{stat(latest_posts,,4,url)}">{stat(latest_posts,,4,short_comment)}</a><br/>

And thats it for the moment. If you have any trouble understanding how this works just post in the support board.
New Style by ImageBoard4Free - 09/06/09 @ 20:18PM
As you can see I'm playing with the style of this board a bit. I hope you like the changes :). I really dislike frames so I've removed them in this board, to get around your going to have to use the board list :P.

I'll post the template and style sheets for this board when I'm finished incase anyone wishs to use them.
Sorry About Access Speed by ImageBoard4Free - 08/06/09 @ 21:32PM
Sorry about the access speed guys, our sql server seems to have gone tits up in the last few days. Going to reinstall it later today to try and fix the problem.

Update:
Yes I know things are still slowish even after that downtime, the server is being really queer at the moment. Give me some time I'm doing some heafty debugging at the moment.

Update 2:
Right guys, I've improved access speeds temporarily by removing active-user-tracking and hit-count-tracking. Please don't complain if neither of those is working in your admincp, I'm aware of it obviously. I'll come up with a permanent solution soon, that should suffice for the moment so I can get some sleep.

Update 3:
Righto. I think I've sorted everything out, everything should be up and running at a better speed. Hopefully it stays this way ;).
Trying Out Some Ads by ImageBoard4Free - 06/06/09 @ 21:49PM
As you may have noticed I placed some etology ads on the front page. At the moment I'm just testing them out to see what kind of stats I get, they will quite probably be removed soon unless they hae potential to recoup the server costs.

Don't worry about your boards though, I have no intention of ever forcing ads on to users boards.
Minor Update by ImageBoard4Free - 06/06/09 @ 15:56PM
Just added the option in the admincp to turn off frames. Useful if you would rather have a front page containing board links like a lot of other *chans, rather than having a board list in a seperate frame.

You can also now set if randomly generated anonymous names are persistent between posts or not in the admincp.
More Templates / Conditional Templating by ImageBoard4Free - 06/06/09 @ 00:11AM
Right guys I just added a few more templates that can be modified in the admincp. Ban pages, error pages and board pages. Don't get to comfortable with them though, as I'll hopefully be completely replacing the awful templating system currently implemented for something far better, in the future. For now however its a helpful stop-gap.

On a side note, conditional templating is now support, though it has limited functionality at the moment. It basically allows you to add code to your templates that will only be shown on the page if certain conditions are meet. For example it allows you to emit banners, music, etc, etc only on certain boards rather than globally wherever the tempalte is used.

The syntax is pretty (*VERY*, as I said, its a stop gap measure until I can implement a better templating system) simple;

{if variable=value}
MY AWESOME TEMPLATING CODE GOES HERE
{/if}

In that example the "MY AWESOME TEMPLATING CODE..." will only get shown on the page if variable is equal to value. At the moment the currently available variables are as follows.

page = This is the current page being shown, currently it can be either topic, news or board, depending on what is being viewed.

board.url = This is the url of the board currently being viewed. For example if I was viewing a random board it would probably equal b.

board.name = Name of the board currently being viewed.

board.isOekaki
board.isNSFW
board.isMedia
board.isFile
board.isPrivate
board.isLocked
board.isPopular
board.isTrial
board.isForcedAnon
= All of those are pretty obvious.

Anyhow have fun, hopefully it will keep you entertained.
Log Files by ImageBoard4Free - 04/06/09 @ 21:58PM
I've just added another option to the admin panel. Pretty obvious one thats been missing for a while. A log viewer, basically it does exactly what it says; it shows you logs of everything important that has happened on your board.
Changes by ImageBoard4Free - 04/06/09 @ 16:41PM
Couple of small odd-job changes, mainly by request;

- A couple of extra options have been added in the file manager. Mainly just to allow you to modify spoiler icons and a few other things.

- Some cosmetic changes to the front pages, mainly to do with thumbnails of recent posts.

- HTML is now allowed in the FAQ and Rules on a board, for some reason I forgot to allow originally.

- The board list at the top of each page has now been cleaned up, a couple of odd problems have been removed and they are now sorted into groups. They also now have tooltips on them.

- Fixed email/name fields not being repopulated on page load.
Default Stylesheets by ImageBoard4Free - 30/05/09 @ 18:17PM
Default stylesheets have been implemented (god only knows why I took so long doing it). You can set a "global" default in the settings area of your admincp as well as "board-specific" defaults in the board manager.
New Template System by ImageBoard4Free - 30/05/09 @ 17:01PM
Just as a head up guys, I'm intending to try and convert the templating system to a system similar to Smarty (http://www.smarty.net/) over the next few days. It should allow you far, far more control over the layout and designs of your site. Unfortunatly during the transfer a lot of the current template data may be lost, I will try and reduce it as much as possible, but I think the benefits outweight the small amount of time it may take to recreate the templates.
Realistic File Size Limits by ImageBoard4Free - 26/05/09 @ 00:30AM
Guys, please try and keep your file size and thread/image limits realistic, I really would rather not put any enforced caps on (or automatic purgers when space runs out). I've seen a lot of boards already with ridiculously high caps (like 200mb), not only does this horrifically waste server resources (which I might add are expensive and in short supply) it also wastes our bandwidth. If you want to host such large files, for gods sake please use a dedicated file-host like rapidshare, mediafire or similar; not only does it take the strain off our servers but the users will also probably get a far higher download speed from dedicated file hosts.

Basically; we are an imageboard host, not a file host, and we don't have the resources to be one.

Think about your limits when you set them, don't just try and set them as high as possible. Some sites have the maximum possible space usage when totaled as literally in the hundreds of terabytes. Take into account that 4chan (one of the most active image boards) only has about 10 gb of active content at any one time, that is pretty huge.

Oh and on a final note, guys, a megabyte is 1024kb, not 1000kb, hence why a lot of your maximum file sizes are all odd fractional numbers.
ChanTopList by ImageBoard4Free - 25/05/09 @ 20:22PM
Just as a notice everyone. The Chan Top List has decided not to list sub-sites of this site, from hence forth there will only be one listing for the entire site, rather than many for sub-sites. They have removed all the old listings for sub-sites and I have reset all the buttons to the main listing. In future may I ask you not to add sub-sites to The Chan Top List as they will invariably get purged.

Think of it like this though, seeing as all the hits are now going to the main listing, IB4F will get higher in the rankings which in itself will bring in more traffic for all sub-sites rather than just specific ones.

If you still want a service like this I may have a go in some spare time at setting up a top list or similar that you can use. For the moment if you want to advertise I would suggest either getting your site added to the overchan or create an account at share.chan3.org, both of which will accept you and both of which will get you more traffic than TCTL.
Multiple Image Uploads by ImageBoard4Free - 25/05/09 @ 20:05PM
Well I've seen a lot of people bitching on their boards that you have to upload one image at a time. I think some of these people fail to understand the reason for an imageboard (notably its primary purpose is not just for dumping porn).

That said, I've implemented the ability to upload multiple images with each post. Some heavy changes were made to some backend code, so expect a few bugs to be present, I'll try and iron them out as fast as possible.

Admins can modify the maximum amount of images uploaded with a single post in the board manager of the admincp. I would advice you to keep it to the default of 5 though to prevent any mass-spamming.
Mathmatical Equations by ImageBoard4Free - 25/05/09 @ 18:34PM
LaTeX expressions are now supported by request of those science board guys. Syntax is fairly simple, just use an [ eq ] bbcode, like the following;

[ eq ]x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}[ /eq ]

chan3 stylesheet by ImageBoard4Free - 24/05/09 @ 23:11PM
Well I was chatting with one of the guys from over at chan3.org and, long story short, we ended up creating a stylesheet for IB4F.com that looks pretty similar to chan3's one. I uploaded it for you guys to use if you want, you can access it in the premade stylesheets in the "Manage Style" area of the admincp.
Lots'o'Updates by Anonymous - 23/05/09 @ 17:34PM
Right guys got a few updates for you, ones that have been requested for a while but I haven't had the time to get finished.

- MP3 Embedding. You can now select in your admincp if mp3 files can be uploaded to your board, if they are a music player will be shown on the post.

- Post length limits. You can now set post a maximum post length (anything over it will be rejected) and also a maximum preview post length (anything over it will have a "message to long, click here to view" appended to it on the main board index).

- Bump & Image reply limits. You can now set on a per-board basis the maximum times a thread can be bumped, along with the maximum amount of images a thread can contain.

- Randomly generated anonymous names. Rather odd request, but I've implemented it anyhow. Basically you can now provide the system with a list of first and last names, and whenever a person posts anonymously they will automatically be assigned a random name made out of the lists, which will stick with them for all future anonymous posts on boards with it enabled.

- Post previews on post links. If you hover over links to different posts (eg >>1000) it will now show you a preview of the post.

- You can now have seperate thumbnail sizes for images and videos (dunno why you would want it, but someone requested it).
Security Measures by ImageBoard4Free - 21/05/09 @ 22:52PM
I added a few extra security measures to prevent some of the instances of flooding and spambots that has recently been occuring on peoples boards.
Moar Downtime by ImageBoard4Free - 17/05/09 @ 02:35AM
Sorry about the 20 minutes or so downtime earlier today. We were migrating the server. More RAM, CPU and space on this one. Should be good.
Post/Topic Moving by ImageBoard4Free - 17/05/09 @ 00:35AM
On the request of a user, the ability to move topics and individual posts to different boards has now been added.

It works the same as deleting/stickying/etc posts, just check the box next to the post to move. Scroll to the bottom, enter an admin/mod password, select "Move" from the combo box, select the board to move to and click submit!
Downtime by ImageBoard4Free - 16/05/09 @ 01:25AM
When visiting earlier you may have been greated with an "... EmitHeader cannot be redeclared ..." style of error. Apologies for this, we has some problems earlier today when several people attempted to HTTP flood this site. Nothing has been damaged, a quick reboot and some blackholing of a few IP's has more or less sorted the problem.

Over the next few days I'll be trying to implement a few new security systems, as well as seriously optimizing some of the source code. This should make this kind of thing far harder to replicate.

Also, in the next few days I'm hoping the upgrade the server (again). Should provide us with enough bandwidth, space and CPU power to keep us going for some time.
Post Icons by ImageBoard4Free - 15/05/09 @ 22:16PM
I changed the text-based-links to kusubax style icons. Makes the page slightly less bloated.

EDIT: Just added some code that roughly supports some of AnonIB's markup code. Mainly just to make the converted boards look nicer.
Forced Anonymous by ImageBoard4Free - 14/05/09 @ 17:47PM
By the request of a board user, I've added support for forced anonimity. Check the board manager in your admincp to activate it.
If you have ... by ImageBoard4Free - 14/05/09 @ 00:26AM
If you've got a feature you want adding, or something you want changing, post in the requests board guys :P. I've sene people complaining about things they could get fixed in a few seconds if they posted here. Anything you want post, when I get some time to work on this site (weekend with luck) I'll go through and add anything thats not straight-out-ridiculous.
Just a Notice by ImageBoard4Free - 12/05/09 @ 14:39PM
Seeing as some people don't seem to be able to understand this. The following are considered illegal under UK law and are not permitted on IB4F.com. If I see them, the boards they are on may get disabled without warning. I've added a notice to the signup page listing these so people don't have an excuse for not knowing from here on.

Given this site is being offered free-of-chage, I don't intend to get V& just because of your perversions.

  • Child Models (regardless of nudity)
  • Extreme Pornography (necrophilia, beastiality or serious physical injuries)
Couple of extra functions by ImageBoard4Free - 11/05/09 @ 14:10PM
You can now set individual boards to; popular (they appear bold in the menu), trial (they appear italicised), locked (nobody can post in them and they get a padlock icon on the menu).

More features soon.

Edit: You can now choose a favicon in the "Manage Files" section of your AdminCP.
Donation Button by ImageBoard4Free - 10/05/09 @ 23:28PM
Well guys, I decided to add a donation button to the main page. I'm not really expecting to get a penny, but I figured I might as well try :). Anything donated will get used to pay our server fees and any extra money will be used to upgrade when and if this servers resources start getting stretched.

At the rate this site is expanding though I'm going to need to start upgrading soon. We are already using about 15% of our total disk-space. I'm probably going to have to write a automatic purger for when the content on this site starts to get to the limit, which I would rather not as it would loose old images :S.

Edit: Well you proved me wrong. An hour or so after adding the donation button and someone (given the purpose of this site, I'll keep his name anonymous) has already donated £10 :P. Thats half our monthly hosting fee in one go. Much appreciated anon :).

Edit: Much appreciated DJ :P. That £50 will help get an upgraded server I think.
Burichan Added by ImageBoard4Free - 10/05/09 @ 20:39PM
Well the title pretty much explains it all. I added a Burichan stylesheet earlier. You can add it in the "Manage Styles" section of your admincp.
Modified Purging System by ImageBoard4Free - 10/05/09 @ 14:59PM
Right guys, I'm sure you have noticed that currently we have a great deal of 1 post boards. Ones that have been created, posted in and never used again. The old purging system basically decided what boards to delete by checking if they are over 2 weeks old and checking if they have zero posts. This was nice as it meant all content would be stored, if only one post. However it meant that there was a ton of pointless boards that got created and just clogged things up. So I've changed the system slightly.

Now the rule is much simpler, if the board hasen't be posted in for more than two weeks, it is considered not in use and purged from the system.

Not to sure about the two-week delay though, might increase it a bit. Feel free to leave suggestions for a better time-span in the feedback board.
Multiple Stylesheet Support At Last by ImageBoard4Free - 09/05/09 @ 19:34PM
Well I finally got round to adding it. You can now have multiple stylesheets on your boards, check out the AdminCP's "Mange Style" page for more information. I still have a few things to add (ability to set default stylesheet, force stylesheet on certain boards, etc), you should see them poping up over the next few hours.

I'll also be making and releasing new stylesheets over the next few days. When they are done I'll post them in the stylesheets board as well as adding them to the "Add Premade Stylesheet" option in your AdminCP.

EDIT: Just add Show Thread/Hide Thread options as well.

EDIT EDIT: Also guys. Good job. We just ticked over 2 million hits since the start of this month. And over 47 thousand unique users.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Added Quick Reply. I'm going to replace the text links with icons when I have finished implementing some of these functions. Going to add editing next.

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: lol, lots of edits today. Anyhow; post editing it now in. To use it just click the edit link on any post, modify what you want, enter the original password in the box, and click submit. Nice and simple.
IB4F.com by ImageBoard4Free - 09/05/09 @ 13:54PM
Thanks to the guy who reminded me to purchase it; you can now access this site by going to IB4F.com rather than ImageBoard4Free.com. I'm sure you will agree its shorter and easier to remember.

EDIT: Hang on a second. Got a few wierd errors when using the ib4f.com domain. Give me some time to fix them.

EDIT EDIT: There we go. All ready to be used now.
Small Update / Request by ImageBoard4Free - 08/05/09 @ 16:19PM
You can now post flash videos in image boards if you enable the extension in your admin panel. It will embed into the page at the usual place the thumbnail is.

Also guys, if you are intending on posting adult material. Please make sure you mark the boards its posted in as not safe for work. I would rather not have porn served up on the front page ;)
Statistic Graphs by ImageBoard4Free - 07/05/09 @ 23:47PM
I added some graphical representations of general board statistics to the admin panel. It should give users a better idea of whats going on. However its still nowhere near perfect yet, still tuning things.
Unlimited Memory For All by ImageBoard4Free - 07/05/09 @ 21:41PM
Right guys, as a bit of a test I've set all boards to have an unlimited amount of memory, I want to work out how much and how fast the space available will be taken up. If this isn't abused and dosen't seriously strain the servers disk capacity then I see no reason why it can't continue indefinitely.

Please DON'T use this as an execuse to just use your board as a file-hosting service, I don't want huge 600mb movie files or whatever else being uploaded and taking up all the space.
Flood Delay by Anonymous - 07/05/09 @ 21:20PM
You can now modify the flood delay per-board. /short-update
Removed Proxy Blocking by ImageBoard4Free - 06/05/09 @ 21:59PM
I removed some of the more complex proxy blocking code. It was causing to many problems for users. The worst proxies will still be blocked, but there will be a larger possibility of proxies slipping through.
File Extensions & Proxies by ImageBoard4Free - 06/05/09 @ 19:12PM
You can now select which file extensions are allowed on each board, in your AdminCP when creating or editing a board.

You can also choose to ban proxies in the "Manage Bans" area of the admincp. Its not perfect, but it gets rid of a pretty good chunk of open-relays, Tor exit nodes and alike. I've activated it by default. It may cause a few problems for those of you who are hosting web-servers on your home connection, sorry about that, I'll get a white-list implemented soon, until then just tell your server to block connections from IB4F.com

I've turned of proxy bans on this board so you can complain if you get caught up by accident.
Ascii Codes Now Work by ImageBoard4Free - 06/05/09 @ 01:23AM
As well as a bunch of bbcode's added recently (check requests board for a list). I just added ASCII codes by request of a guy at NZchan. To define them simply use the format (without spaces or quotes); "& #174 ;" with the number in the middle being the ASCII value of the character you wish to embed.
Staff Hierarchy by ImageBoard4Free - 06/05/09 @ 01:11AM
A few people asked me about the staff hierarchy here, so here is a quick explanation.

First thing to note is all IB4F site staff will post using a staff capcode if they are giving out a warning, if someone gives you a warning without one, you can more or less safely ignore it.

## Super Admin
Currently there is only one of these guys running around, and thats me. Super admins are the owners of IB4F.com, we have complete control over all boards as well as a number of other things. If you get a warning from one of these, its probably a good idea to take it if you want your board to stay intact.

## Super Mod
Super moderators are pretty much the same as normal moderators on individual boards, baning, deleting and so forth. The only difference is they can preform moderation actions of every single board, they can also disable boards (though not delete) if things get out of hand.

Hiring: If you want to become a super mod, post in the requests boards, we could use some active in the US timezone at the moment.

## Admin
Admins are the owners of the board you are posting in. They have complete control over all the aspects of the board you are posting in, including bans, deletions and so forth.

If you don't want to get ejected from the given board its best to stay on the right side of these guys. However they can not influence you outside of their own boards.

As they are not site staff they may or may not post with capcodes.

## Mod
Moderators are the lowest form of staff, they have the ability to delete, ban and read reported posts; but only on their designated sub-board (though admins may give them access to all sub-boards). They are usually there simply to clean things up. As usual its best to stay on the good side of these guys, however they can not affect you outside their designated board.

As they are not site staff they may or may not post with capcodes.

And yes, thats about it. Hope that clears things up.
Spoiler Images by ImageBoard4Free - 05/05/09 @ 21:55PM
As requested by a user in the support board. You now have the ability to post "spoiler-images", which are basically just images where the thumbnail shows a spoiler-warning and requires you to click it to see the full image.

To post spoiler-images just click "Is Spoiler" when posting.
Recent Posts in AdminCP by ImageBoard4Free - 05/05/09 @ 19:56PM
Right guys, I've added a new moderation tool to the AdminCP, its under the link "Recent Posts".

Basically its just a list of all the posts in your board, sorted into cronological order. It allows you to quickly preform actions en-mass ono many different posts on your board. Its also handy just for keeping track of new posts.
Some New Stylesheets by ImageBoard4Free - 05/05/09 @ 17:14PM
Going through and creating some new stylesheets at the moment. You can download whatever I produce in the Stylesheets board.

With luck I should be able to implement multiple stylesheets per board later today.

EDIT
Added a new search system to the front page. Make sure to search before creating a imageboard, one like yours may have already been made :P.
Random Addition by ImageBoard4Free - 05/05/09 @ 16:43PM
Someone on one of the boards (can't remember which one) was bitching about their name/subject/email not being remembered when they post. Well it is now, when you post it will now store the details you posted in a cookie and will auto-fill the fields with them everytime you view the page.

Enjoy.
Activity is growing by ImageBoard4Free - 04/05/09 @ 01:36AM
Well this site sure is growing. Only a week or so ago it only had a dozen or so boards and only used a few hundred megabytes of bandwidth a day. Currently our activity is roughly doubling everyday, we are currently up to about 4gb of transfer per day and half a million page views.

Going well guys, but we still have room to grow; make sure to advertise your sites to get in some more traffic!

EDIT (lol, yes I can edit shit)
http://encyclopediadramatica.com/AnonIB
lol. ok, which one of you did that? XD
Few More Updates by ImageBoard4Free - 03/05/09 @ 18:21PM
By request of another user I've added a few more features.

1. You can now setup wordfilters that will redirect a user to another location when they try to post (use for redirecting to secret boards or something?).

2. You can now define customised capcodes in your AdminCP.

3. If you are an admin you can now make posts that contain HTML. Just enter "html" into the subject field and your admin password into the password field and all HTML in your post will be accepted.
Small Update by ImageBoard4Free - 03/05/09 @ 14:28PM
Another small update. By request of a user in the support board, I've added the ability to re-arrange the order in which boards and groups are displayed in the menu. Just go into your board manager and you will see arrow icons that allow you to move the board up or down. If you move a board that is right at the top or right at the bottom it will shift it into the group above or below it.
A few more updates by ImageBoard4Free - 02/05/09 @ 23:53PM
Added a couple of things pointed out to me by the guys over at the /science/ board.

1. If you now post without entering a password the software will generate a random one and store it in your cookies. Everytime you visit the site from then-on all the password boxs will be automatically-filled with it. Allows you to delete posts and such that you have made without entering a password.

Just for reference; It won't auto-fill-in staff passwords though, they are hashed when stored for security reasons.

2. If you look in the board manager, when creating or editing boards you can now specify if they will allow "blank posts". This means you can allow users to post empty posts as long as they are uploading/linking to a file.
Couple of Small Updates by ImageBoard4Free - 02/05/09 @ 17:53PM
Right guys. Couple of small updates people asked for.

1. You can now choose the (USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST) text when banning posts. If you just want to add it to a post, but not ban the user, just set the ban length to negative.

2. In the board manager you can now set boards to require/not-require a file when posting a topic. Meaning you can now have entirely text based topics.

I'm also intending on adding some more moderation options to the admincp today (ban by ip, search by ip, recent posts, etc.), add support for multiple-stylesheets, add textboard support, favicon modification, redirect-based-boards, and so on. Lets see how fast I can program them :P.
HTML? In MY news items!? by ImageBoard4Free - 02/05/09 @ 02:27AM

Just playing with html in news items :).
AnonIB Converter by ImageBoard4Free - 02/05/09 @ 02:15AM
Probably a little cheeky of me, but I did it anyway.

Basically there is a new tool in the Tools page on the front page. Its called the AnonIB Converter. In essence what it allows you to do is transfer the structure and contents of an existing AnonIB board onto a blank IB4F.com board.

Useful for those of you who are tired of ads and malware :S.
Some Tools For You by ImageBoard4Free - 30/04/09 @ 21:52PM
You might notice if you go to the main home page that there is now a link on the right for "Tools". This page basically contains a few client-side tools I wrote with the aim of trying to make the use of IB4F.com easier and more enjoyable.

At the moment the only tool available is the IB4F Rapid Uploader. This tool basically takes a directory of images and will upload them one-by-one to a topic of your choosing. It saves you from manually dumping images to threads which I know can be rather time-consuming.

Soon to come is an AnonIB.com board converter, stay tuned for a download (should be available in the next couple of days) :P.
Reward System by ImageBoard4Free - 30/04/09 @ 18:10PM
Right guys. I've just implemented a quite nice reward system which I hope you will like.

As you may know, there is a quota of 100mb per imageboard of space that can be used at any one time. This is usually more than adequete for small boards. However it is limiting for larger boards. So what I have done is implement a system, where by each post that is made on a board gives the owner a certain amount of storage space.

At the moment its set to about 51kb per post. Which when rounded up is 5mb per 100 posts, 50mb per 1000 posts and so on.

Hopefully this should be helpful and fun for you guys. Be aware though that deleted posts WILL remove the memory quota that they gave when posted, unless they get pruned normally.

On another note I'm also considering implementing some GET contests with prizes for the winners. And I'm also thinking of implementing a voluntary advertising system where board owners get a share of any money made.
File Manager by ImageBoard4Free - 30/04/09 @ 00:02AM
Yet another new thing to play with. I do keep fiddling with things don't I?

I noticed the other day that most of the boards are currently using hosts like photobucket or similar to store banners/icons/etc for their imageboards. I didn't really like this, it gave me the feeling that I wasen't providing a full service. As such I've added a file manager which you can check out in your admin-cp. It basically allows you to upload your files to permanent storage from which you can link to them for your banners or whatever else you want to use the files for.

Please be aware that the uploaded files DO count towards your overal memory allocation, so don't go to mad with it.
Missing Images by ImageBoard4Free - 29/04/09 @ 14:07PM
Right guys, I've had a few people notice that some of the thumbnails here are wrong and some of the images are missing.

I apologise for this. Apparently a few images somehow dissappeared while we were transfering servers. This has caused their file-names to be taken up by newly uploaded content, sometimes causing a miss-match between the thumbnail and the actual image.

Sorry about this. Fortunatly it has only occured on a handful of images (around a dozen or so from what I can tell).

I'll be implementing a system a bit later to prevent file-names being recycled in this way if any future problems occur.
Domain Manager by ImageBoard4Free - 28/04/09 @ 21:38PM
Well guys guess what suprise I have in store for you today?

Well I've implemented a domain manager! That right you can now register your domains with IB4F's DNS servers.

What this means in non-technical langauge is you can now make your boards completely autonomous of IB4F. You no longer have to have imageboard4free.com located on any of your pages or in any of the page links. Instead you can have your own domain.

I added this feature today when I noticed a couple of people were using crappy redirect code for their domains, so as soon as you went to the domain rather than actually showing the site on it, it would redirect o IB4F.com. Not very professional looking is it?

If you have a domain you want to add, just look in "Manage Domains" in your admincp. Make sure to update your nameservers when you add one!

Here is one I made earlier to show you how it works. Its the support board, but under a totaly different domain.

http://www.uploadmydata.com
Small Update by ImageBoard4Free - 28/04/09 @ 02:40AM
You can now change the default "Anonymous" name in the board manage of the admincp and there is also now a [Return] button when replying to threads.

Hope you enjoy em.
New Server & IRC by ImageBoard4Free - 27/04/09 @ 16:37PM
Well guys, sorry about the multi-hour downtime earlier today. This was caused by me moving over all the data and records of this site from our old host (which was pretty awful), to the shiney new VPS we are currently running on.

Hopefully this new server will give not only very nice performance increases, but also the option for me to implement several intresting new features I've been thinking up.

On another note we now have an IRC server running. Come pop in at irc.imageboard4free.com, why not setup a channel for your board as well (we will be adding some options in the admincp for this later) :P.
IE6/7 Support by ImageBoard4Free - 24/04/09 @ 16:26PM
I just went and wrangled with IE6/7's terrible javascript vm and I think I've managed to get most of the javascript is this site more or less executable under them. As such I've removed the warning banner at the top of the page when you view it in IE. However the templates may be a bit wonkey.

On another note, we shall be moving to a better host soon hopefully. When we do I'm intending on adding some IRC channel hosting support :P. Should be intresting.
Apologies Again by ImageBoard4Free - 23/04/09 @ 23:41PM
Posting was broken for approximately 2 hours after I upgraded some of the source code. Really, really, really, stupid error.

Sorry for using you guys as such guinea pigs, I should be done with most of the updates in a few days and everything should stabalise.

On that note, if posting gets broken or something similar send me a message using the contact page on the main site :P. I'll usually get right on it.
New Features by ImageBoard4Free - 23/04/09 @ 21:26PM
Well guys I spent the last hour or so tweaking bits and pieces and making a few visual changes. I also added 3 "large" features.

1) You can give sub boards individual passwords which have to be entered by the users to view the boards. You can use this for doing things like making staff boards.

2) If you look in "Manage Settings" in your admincp there is now the option to set it as private. If you do it won't be shown on the main home page, nor will its content.

3) You can set individual sub boards as private as well. This means they won't shown up in the navigation menu.
Recruiting Global Moderators by ImageBoard4Free - 20/04/09 @ 19:32PM
So guys, if (as I intend) this site grows larger, there is quite likely to be a lot of material being hosted. To much for me to check over myself to make sure it dosen't violate the TOS. As such I'm recruiting a few global moderators.

The job is essentially the same as a moderator on a normal board, the different is you get access to all boards and you have a few extra powers (disabling boards and so forth).

If you want to become a global moderator, send me an email using the contact link on the home page!
Early Problems by ImageBoard4Free - 18/04/09 @ 20:25PM
Sorry about the whole "Hacking Attempt" lockdown earlier. I accidently triped some security code when I was making some changes to the site. I'll make sure I don't do that next time :P.
Filters Added by ImageBoard4Free - 16/04/09 @ 16:34PM
Right guys, yet another new feature has been added. If you go and check out your AdminCP's you will notice a new link called "Manage Filters".

It does pretty much what you would expect it to, it allows you to create word or phrase filters that will either replace a phrase in a post with another phrase, revoke posts with the phrase, or even automatically ban users who try and post the phrase.

Have fun.
Apologies by ImageBoard4Free - 15/04/09 @ 23:51PM
Sorry about the adverts and links at the bottom of the page. I know they are a bit clunky, but they bring in traffic to the site.

If you really don't want them, you can edit them out of the template footer in the AdminCP of your board.
File Boards Added by ImageBoard4Free - 15/04/09 @ 21:57PM
If you have a look in the board manager in your AdminCP you will now notice you have the option of setting a board as a "file board". What this means is that you can now have boards where, rather than posting images, you post general binary files. Similar in style to 4chan's /rs/ board if you have seen it.

If you want to check it out go to the testing board here.

http://www.imageboard4free.com/board/testing/files/
Media Boards Added by ImageBoard4Free - 14/04/09 @ 16:38PM
If you have a look in the board manager in your AdminCP you will now notice you have the option of setting a board as a "media board". What this means is that you can now have boards where, rather than posting images, you post videos and other media from places like YouTube.

If you want to check it out go to the testing board here.

http://www.imageboard4free.com/board/testing/media/
